The MAIN page

This site is not meant to be a pretty website.  It was originally intended to be a place where I put junk to tinker with.  It has evolved into the place where I put anything that I want to share with friends and family, which means mostly pictures.

If you have comments or complaints, please feel free to e-mail me.  I will feel free to respond, repair or ignore as I see fit. :)

So...  It has been a while since I did much with this page.  I really need to do some updates, maybe clean up a little. I think maybe the best answer would be to just redo the whole site.  I have been making some changes from time to time, but never really getting everything organized.  This site is kind of like that drawer in the kitchen that most people have...  you put stuff in there that you don't want to throw away, but you don't do a lot with organizing it.

What I would like to do is build a whole new structure, in a bit more professional and interesting style, and then move content that I want to keep to the new spot.  I guess it would help if I actually knew how to work a better set of tools.

So...  I have been working on doing what I said above....  (build a new site and move the content) so hopefully that will happen in the next few weeks.  there is a lot involved in building a website.  I think it would be easier if there weren't already content that needed to migrate.  I could just build fresh as I go.  Moving existing content isn't as easy, because there is so much that needs to be changed to work in the new site.

To make it even more difficult, I am changing the tools used to build the site.  This page was originally built in FrontPage.  I am using Visual Studio to build the new site.  (I wasn't very good with FrontPage, and I am even less knowledgeable about Visual Studio, but at least it is good practice.)  I am also using SharePoint Designer 2007.  It is very much like FrontPage, but has a few new features and can work with SharePoint sites.  (This site is not a SharePoint site.)  Visual Studio has a better mechanism for handling pictures.  Or at least, I like the way the "Personal Website" project handles pictures.

I keep adding to the weird text on this page, thinking that I will eventually update the content. In case you haven't noticed, I am not particularly good at following up on things that I am the only one who benefits from, or notices. (If you do happen to pay attention to this, feel free to let me know so that it encourages me to get it sorted and done.)

This site was originally created somewhere around 2003 I think. I have made minor (and a few major) changes over the years, but most of my effort was around the blog. Even that has been rather limited. I like to think I get a lot of stuff done, but sometimes it isn't obvious to the outside world. Sometimes, I just don't get much done.

I have increased my general knowledge over the years, so I am more comfortable with what I am doing than may be indicated above, but this is still a side hobby, not my full time job.

So at the end of 2024 and into the beginning of 2025, I am moving the picture pages part of this site to Michael's Travels. I have that setup a little better for sharing pictures and don't really see the benefit in maintaining two photo sites. I want to have the content here be more technical/work oriented. I already blog about technical stuff (even non-work technical stuff) on this Blog. It makes sense to separeate things.

As I get this site cleaned up a bit, I have to decide if I want to keep the root site, or just redirect to the Blog. I think that is a decision I will hold for later. For now, This is what you get.

Sites that I have up and running or stuff that I want to share...
